Starting on the Shores of Lough Dan.Kayak the clockwise triangular course up the lake, across to the other shore and back to the start. Distance: 2km Meters climbed: 0m
Kayak OptionsYou have two options for the Kayak, which you will need to confirm when entering on-line. Note: there is no price difference for either option.
Option 1: Use supplied sit on top KayaksFor this option you will use the kayaks, paddles and life jackets we will provide for you. It is anticipated that ~ 90% of people will use this option. The kayaks are 2 person sit-on kayaks which do not require any specialist skills to paddle. You will get onto the kayak with whatever other competitor arrives at Lough Dan with you or else you can wait for a friend. Note: there will not be a time-out at the kayak, so any waiting will be included in your overall time. You will be required to put on a life jacket in advance of entering the water and the boats must be lifted from the water and positioned on the bank as directed by the marshals before returning paddles and lifejackets and rejoining your bike for the next section of the race.
Option 2: Bring your own kayak and equipment. If you have a favourite boat, prefer to kayak on your own etc., you can bring your own boat and equipment ( Paddle, life jacket, spray deck, etc )to use during the event. You will need to drop your kayak to Lough Dan before 6:45am on event day to avail of this option, where it will be numbered (with your race number) and set aside from other kayaks. To eliminate the possibility of introducing the invasive Zebra Muscles into the clean Lough Dan, all boats must be thoroughly cleaned before bringing to the race. The organisers reserve the right to refuse entry to any boat believed to be a threat. It is your responsibility to have a "seaworthy" boat with adequate buoyancy bags, hatch covers, etc and we reserve the right to refuse entry to any boat we deem unsafe in any way. For closed cockpit boats spray decks should be used. You will be responsible for safe entry and exit to the water in a place designated by marshals. Please be aware that you should be prepared for self rescue (E.g. By rolling) and there as there will be lots of sit on top boats in the race it is expected to be relatively crowded at entry and exit points. Persons availing of this Own Boat option will be required to bring their boats to the waters edge and after paddle stage completion from water edge to designated deposit area as directed by marshals. All boats and associated equipment must be removed from the area by 4pm on race day. Whilst marshals will be in attendance at boat deposit area between 6am and 4pm on race day, no responsibility is taken by organisers for lost, stolen or mislayed property. Competitors are advised to put their name and numbers on all personal property to avoid likelihood of mislaying of equipment. Changes to Own Boat option will be permitted in certain circumstances up to 31st March. Please e-mail war2010race@gmail.com with "Subject Request to Change Boat Option" No changes will be permitted after this time to ensure an adequate numbers of boats are provided for those that have requested them. |
