Formula1 Duathlon – 1st August 0

July 25th, 2012

The last major Duathlon of 2012 will be the Runways Formula 1 Duathlon next Wednesday, 1st August.

Top Class Duathlon Field

A top class field is expected for this interesting Duathlon format. There are 5 stages to a Formula1 Duathlon; run, cycle, run, cycle, run. The distances are short, with 2.7km run stages and 8km cycle stages. With short distances and so many changes, transition speed can have a major impact on the results. Plus it makes great viewing with positions changing as rapidly as the relatively short stages.

Maybe The Best Men’s Field Of The Year

Will you be on the start line?

To mention a few, so far. Current Irish Duathlon Champion Paul Carroll will be racing Cork Tri’s all conquering Cathal O’Donovan for the first time, as well as Niall Somers who ran Paul close at the Sportsman Duathlon this spring. Not to mention last weekend’s Beast of the East winner Stephen Early.

The run biases format should play into the hands of Maire-Triona Keane, who looks set to make it three wins at next Wednesday’s race. However the Irish Duathlon Champion Judith Lowery and last month’s 3rd place Jennifer O’Connell will no doubt have different opinions about this. Plus add into the mix Aoife Lynch (last weekend’s Beast of the East winner) who should produce the fastest bike splits. There will never be a dull moment in the women’s race.

At the this years Duathlon in the Park over 30% of all people entred have been begineers and frist timers. This is great news for the sport, lets keep it going.

Looking for a bit more Adventure?

Why not try the HellFire Duathlon Series?  After last years first HellFire Duathlon, we’ve expanded to a three race series to take in the other two woods on the cycle loop; Massy’s and Cruagh.  The runs get progressively tougher as the series progress, but the challenging bike loop is constant.  The runs start with a trail run in Cruagh Woods in May, The Massy’s run in June has a bit more bite, while the run over the HellFire summit in July is a full scale mountain run.
