Reasons for the DublinTri Series

Making Triathlon more accessible
While Triathlon has grown hugely in the last few years the number of Triathlons in Dublin has actually decreased. We’re aiming to reverse this. In 2008 little more than 500 people completed a triathlon in Dublin, even though there are over 2000 triathletes in Dublin. If the sport is to develop in Ireland to its potential, we need more easily accessible Triathlons in Dublin.
Developing ‘up and coming’ talent
Currently there is no stepping stone for Irish Triathletes between domestic non-drafting races and elite international races. The Dublin Tri Series will have a draft legal triathlon (as well as the larger non-drafting Triathlon). We’re aiming to giving ‘up and coming’ athletes a chance to practice racing under the draft-legal format before representing Ireland at International Triathlons.
Bringing back the Skerries Triathlon
Both Fergus Ryan and I want to bring back the Skerries Triathlon, but for different reasons. Fergus was involved from the start in 2002 and was instrumental in staging 'Skerries 2004' when it was the largest Triathlon in Ireland. I want to bring it back for the challenging bike course and because it was where I won my first Irish Triathlon Championships.
My Thesis
As part of my Masters in the UCD Smurfit Business School, I have to use a research group of at least 300 people. Hence I would really appreciate if you completed the online survey here.
