2009 Duathlon series
Thank you to all competitors of the 2009 series. You provided us with some truly great racing. Without you there would be no series. We hope to see you back in 2010.
Special mention must go to the OPW, who allow us to take over the park for the Wednesday night. The Order of Malta (Palmerstown) who provide the first aid support. The Gardai (Blanchardstown Station) who ensure that the road closures run smoothly and even helped out when the Military Road was declared a crime scene for the August race!!!

Duathlon Series Background
The Dublin City Duathlon Series is held in the Phoenix Park on a circuit closed to traffic and comprises a 2.7km run, 13km cycle
and finally
a 2.7km run. This 2009 series is now in it’s 7th year and this August was the 28th staging of the event.
With about 50 newcomers per event, many on mountain bikes, it’s the ideal first event for those looking to get into the multi-sport
and triathlon scene. However newcomers are not to be underestimated; Garry Crossan won at his first attempt. Also as cash‘primes’ are given for the first person to finish the first 2mile leg, certain track stars (who shall remain nameless) have been know
to race for the ‘primes’ alone.
The course was designed with first timers in mind, as the run is flat and the cycle is on wide well surfaced roads, which are
closed to traffic. Most of the 100 plus competitors in each race finish within 25 minutes of the winners, so it’s very competitive
and you’re guaranteed not to be in no-mans land during the event, finding yourself minutes from competitors ahead and behind you.
